Kids Birthday parties – it’s a love, hate scenario for almost every parent. In one aspect we love them because the joy and excitement that it brings to our kids.
We dislike them because we have to plan them, go to them and buy for them.
Guess what moms & dads, I heard a Birthday idea and is has revolutionized the way you will think of birthdays…well maybe.
Welcome to the age of the Fiver Birthday (or Tenner).
What is a Fiver/Tenner birthday?
A Fiver/Tenner birthday is a birthday party where guests are encouraged to bring no more than $5 or $10 in cash. If you do not like the prospect of cash, then you can ask that your guests spend no more than $5 or $10 on gifts.
So you may be thinking why any parent would want to ask their guests to put a cap on presents? The reason I will be throwing a Tenner birthday for my son this year is because he has enough toys. I want to teach my son that presents are nice but it is much nicer to have your friends to celebrate with.
Fiver and Tenner’s parties also allow families who do not have much money to be able to join. Despite many parents, guests feel like they cannot show up to a party empty handed. A Fiver/Tenner birthday party will allow those families to spend little money.
So how can you invite guests to a fiver/tenner party?
On your invite, state that this party is a fiver/tenner party. Ask that guests only give $5 or $10 (maybe towards one big present) or ask that guests spend no more than $5 or $10.
And always remember, birthday parties are not about the gifts. They are about the fun and celebrating with family and friends!
Have a Happy Birthday!
