After a long 3-mile run around my neighborhood, I'm thinking of just a few things. Will I die? How much farther until I die? Oh my gosh it's Water Quality Awareness Month and boy could I use some onion water! Nothing says re-hydrate, nothing says cool and refreshing like ... onion water.
Mac Kid friends, August is Water Quality Awareness Month and to celebrate I'm going to tell you the story of how we solved our onion water issue with very little thought or effort.
We moved to this area of Pittsburgh 2 years ago this December. No matter the faucet, no matter the $2,500 + filtration boasting refrigerator, in my home, we sip on cool, refreshing water that tastes and smells, like an onion. It's part of our comedic act.
Stand by the refrigerator, sip a glass and say "ahhhh, onion." Call the puppies in from catching frisbee..."Here guys! Here's some onion water!" 5 AM coffee, just the way I like it. Onion-y.
Blek!
We could not figure out what the issue was. Was it us? Was it our ice cubes? Was it our home? Was it our water lines? Are we trolls munching on onions here in Pittsburgh? I didn't have an answer. But I know that I'm not a troll. And sadly, I changed my water consumption because of the onion-tasting water.
We simply had resigned ourselves to either drinking our onion water or drinking no water at all.
Until this fella came to change our lives.
The 10 Cup ZeroWater BPA-Free filter pitcher. A filtration pitcher that leaves 000 Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in your drinking water using a premium 5-stage filtration method vs. the standard conventional 2-stage filtration method (that may be sitting in your fridge right now!)
ZeroWater removes 99% of TDS delivering the purest tasting water! (leading brands remove only up to 50%)
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) are non-organic impurities found in water, which contribute to a difference in the taste of water. Dissolved solids enter our water supply through old piping, run-off from roads, salts, pesticides, fertilizers, and more.
DID YOU HEAR THAT? "...which contribute to a difference in the taste of water."
ONION MYSTERY SOLVED.
ZeroWater is the only filter certified by the NSF to reduce both lead and chromium and only ZeroWater leaves 000 dissolved solids, for the purest tasting water out there!
For me, that's all I cared about, having great tasting water. We ripped it open, read the simple directions and filled it up with TAP WATER to begin the filtration process. ONION WATER BE GONE!
While I waited, I dug a little deeper using the Water Quality Meter which was included with my pitcher.
Simply turn it on and let the meter set to 000. Stick the end in your water of choice and wait for the reading. The numbers that pops up references the TDS amount in your water sample measured in parts per million (PPM.) On average tap water TDS reflects a reading of 220 PPM.
Come join me in my ZeroWater science lab and make the same face I did when I saw our household scores.
Just for reference: 010 is the - FDA maximum allowable TDS for purified bottled water, 500 is the EPA recommended maximum TDS for tap water.
Our Refrigerator (with a brand new filter.)
A PPM of 180. - That's just lovely. (Grr face.)
Our tap water.
A PPM of 211. My word! (And even more concerning, not too far off from our expensive refrigerator filter!)
Bottled water, freshly opened.
A PPM of 197. - Let's reconsider water bottle purchases, Debby!
I saved the best for last.
ZeroWater filtered TAP WATER, fresh from our new filtration pitcher. A PPM of 000 as advertised. BINGO!
But... did it taste like Onion?
I was thrilled to discover....
NO.
It was delicious, crisp and refreshing. With one use the water in our ZeroWater pitcher tasted like it was coming from a gorgeous, picturesque, mountain spring.
Problem solved - with very little thought or effort!
I can't believe that I waited this long to dig into my onion problem. I'm so thankful to have met ZeroWater. My household water consumption is up and I can confirm that we are indeed, not trolls! After a long run, this is what I come home to now!
Thanks ZeroWater!
