My Mosquito Free Summer without hurting the Honey Bees!

And How I did it without harmful chemicals or Pesticides

By Holli Carlin July 16, 2023

Fall is my favorite season, hands down.
Cooler temps? Yes, please. Halloween excitement? Love it. Mosquitoes? GONE. Which, honestly, might be the biggest win of all.

Look, I’m not saying mosquitoes have a personal vendetta against me... but I am saying that if there’s one within a five-mile radius, it will find me. I’ve heard they’re attracted to certain blood types. I must have the “buffet” kind.

As Spring rolls into Summer, while the rest of the world is dreaming about beach days and BBQs, I’m mentally prepping for battle. I’ve perfected the art of sprinting from my front door to the car like it’s an Olympic event—anything to avoid becoming a mosquito snack.

Enter: Bee Friendly Pest Control—my summer sanity saver. I found them in 2022 and have never looked back. They treat your yard for mosquitoes using zero pesticides and all the good stuff: food-grade essential oils like thyme, garlic, rosemary, peppermint, cinnamon, and clove (basically smells like your garden went to a spa). Plus, the scent that lingers is more “fresh herb garden” than “chemical warfare.”

"they use food-grade essential oils"

There’s no overpowering chemical scent in the environment. As a mom of two energetic boys who are constantly outside, safety is everything to me. I love that Bee Friendly’s sprays are safe for my kids and kind to bees and pollinators (because saving the planet is kind of part of the parenting gig now, right?). And yes, the kids can run right out and play immediately after a treatment.

"After each treatment, my kids can enjoy outdoor play right away. No waiting"

Bonus? They also help control Lantern Flies! I was skeptical too, but by Spring 2023, my yard was nearly Lantern Fly-free. This year? Just a few stragglers.

Bee Friendly Pest Control has been a total game-changer for us. If you're looking to reclaim your yard without compromising your family's safety—or the bees—check out the 10 reasons below for why a pesticide-free summer is the way to go. Trust me, your skin (and sanity) will thank you.

9 reasons You need to go Pesticide FREE This Summer with Bee Friendly Pest Control

KEEPS YOU & YOUR FAMILY SAFE

Pesticides can be harmful to humans, animals & honey bees when used incorrectly or in high amounts. Going pesticide free is the best way to make sure your family is safe from any potential harm that can come from using pesticides. Bee Friendly Pest Control uses a proprietary blend of US-sourced, food-grade essential oils, combined with other natural ingredients like salt and vinegar to get rid of mosquitoes and other insects we don't like. Since there are no pesticides, this means your yard is safe to use immediately after a treatment.

ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY

Pesticides can be harmful to the environment if not used carefully. By going pesticide free, you’re helping to create a greener and healthier environment for everyone. Pesticides infiltrate the soil & water systems. They also can remain on the foods that we eat. Yuck! Please hold the pesticide from my fry order. Thanks!

ENHANCES PLANT GROWTH

Studies have shown that plants grown in pesticide free environments grow healthier and faster because they don’t face all of the risks associated with pesticide use.

REDUCES INSECT RESISTANT GENES:

Pesticides can cause insects to develop resistance over time. By going pesticide free, you’ll be helping reduce the spread of insect resistant genes.

BETTER SOIL STRUCTURE

Pesticides can cause damage to the soil by interrupting the natural balance of organisms living in the soil. By going pesticide free, you’ll be helping maintain the structure of the soil.

PROMOTES NATURAL PREDATORS

Using pesticides can disrupt the natural food chain and the balance of predator and prey.  Going pesticide free will help promote the natural predators and keep insect populations in check.

KEEPS ANIMALS SAFE - ESPECIALLY LOCAL POLLINATORS

Going pesticide free helps to keep not only your family safe, but other animals in the area as well. Animals can be exposed to pesticides in their natural habitats and they can be detrimental to their health.

KEEPS FOOD SAFE

Using pesticides on food can contaminate it and make it unsafe for human consumption. By going pesticide free, you’ll be helping ensure that the food you’re eating is safe and healthy.

SAVES YOU MONEY

Overusing pesticides can be expensive and inefficient. Going pesticide free can help save you money in the long run by reducing the amount of pesticide you’re using and having less of an issue with pests.
