Simplify Morning With Easy Overnight Cinnamon Apple Baked French Toast

A family brunch favorite

Our family likes to focus on fast, easy, and kid-friendly recipes that everyone can enjoy! One is our fan favorite Baked French Toast, which everyone always wants more of. The kids love this dish, not only because it's so delicious, but because it is easy enough for them to help make it. They love being involved and it is a great way to teach them basic cooking skills. They get to practice cutting, measuring, and mixing.

This dish will taste wonderful whether you let it sit overnight or you bake it right away, but we love to prep it the night before and let it sit overnight in the fridge. If it is prepared and baked on the same day, I would recommend tossing the bread in the custard to make sure each piece has been covered.

This French Toast is a simple prep, bake, and serve kind of meal. It is great for busy families because it can be a last minute fun and delicious dish!

At Macaroni KID, we skip the fluff and get straight to the good stuff. No need to scroll through pages of unnecessary content — our recipes are easy to find. Now let's get cooking!

Cinnamon Apple Baked French Toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf of French bread or sourdough
  • 2-3 apples, red or green (we love green apples)
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups milk (any kind – we use almond milk)
  • ½ cup of heavy cream
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • ¼ cup of light brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, create the custard: Crack 8 eggs and whisk together, add milk, heavy whipping cream, and vanilla extract, then add sugar, light brown sugar, and cinnamon. Whisk all ingredients together.
  2. Grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  3. Dice bread into cubes and add to baking dish.
  4. Skin and dice apples into pieces and mix into bread cubes.
  5. Pour custard mix over the bread and apples.
  6. Cover dish and let sit overnight in the fridge, unless baking immediately.
  7. When ready to bake, remove from the fridge while the oven preheats to 350 degrees. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the egg mixture is set.
  8. Serve with your favorite syrup and enjoy!
