Located in West Deptford on a spacious 13-acre property lies the fascinating historical landmark known as Soupy Island. Originally called the Sanitarium Association of Philadelphia, this organization was established to quarantine sick children from the healthy population during the cholera outbreak in Philadelphia in the late 1800s.
With the organization's growth, it bought 104 acres in West Deptford. Converting an old hotel into a hospital for sick children, it served its purpose until 1936. Following the hospital's closure, children started frequenting Soupy Island for different reasons, using it as an escape from the busy streets of Philadelphia.
To this day, Soupy Island remains a South Jersey gem especially during the summer months.
Soupy Island sits on 13-acres of land. The property houses several attractions and amenities that are open and free to the public. Soupy Island opens for the summer season every year the Tuesday after 4th of July and runs mid-August (typically 8 weeks).

There are 2 pools located at Soupy Island
- Large Pool: 3ft - 8ft
- Small Pool: 1ft - 2ft
DAYS OPEN / HOURS / AGE REQUIREMENTS
SUMMER 2024 JULY 9 - AUGUST 15 |
Soupy Island is open 3-days each week. Each day allows certain ages to utilize the facility.
- TUESDAYS: 9:30AM - 3PM (open for ages 8 & under)
- WEDNESDAYS: 9:30AM - 4PM (open for ages 12 & under)
- THURSDAYS: 9:30AM - 4PM (open for ages 12 & under)
POOL SCHEDULES
Both Pools run on the same schedule
- Gates Open: 9:30AM
- depending on how many staff are available during your visit will determine when/if the carousel and covered slide will be open
- Breakfast/Snack is Served: 10AM (usually graham crackers, may differ each day)
- Pools Open: 10:30AM
- Pools Close for Lunch: 11:45AM
- Soup & Cold Milk is served at Noon
- Pools Reopen: 1PM
- Pools Close for Snack Break: 1:45PM (Tuesdays the Pool closes for the day)
- Snack is Available at 2PM (same building you get the soup from)
- Pools Reopen: 2:30PM
- Pools Close for the Day: 3:15PM (on Tuesdays they close at 1:45PM)
- Park Closes: 4PM (except on Tuesdays, it closes at 3PM)
